Honeydew melon, stone fruit, and orange blossom

This elegant and balanced coffee is the work of just six smallholder farmers, each growing coffee on small farms in the Inzá region of Cauca, Colombia.
The growers who contribute to this lot hold farms no larger than two hectares, located up to 2,000 metres above sea level where the stable microclimate and rich volcanic soils contribute to coffees of great sweetness and concentration.
Back in 2004, a group of just ten farmers from the Inzá region were unhappy with the low prices being offered for their coffee and banded together to form the Asociación De Caficultores Del Oriente Caucano (ASORCAFE). Today, this collective represents some 450 farmers, offering education, training, pricing support, and access to a global coffee market.
While we consider La Piramide to be a ‘single origin’ coffee — it comes from one particular region — in reality, it’s made up from a selection of high-scoring microlots from a group of six ASORCAFE’s farmers. The association’s tasters go through a huge number of day lots and other microlots before choosing a small number to be blended into La Piramide and shipped to Australia.
On the cupping table, this coffee stood out for its rich, melon-like sweetness, highlighted by an elegant and lingering floral finish. This is the first time we’ve purchased La Piramide, and have done so through one of our sourcing partners, Caravela.
