As a consequence of the ongoing omnishambles that we’ve all been enduring, for the first time, the 2021 Australian AeroPress Championship will take place in absentia*. 

As much as we’d love to have already seen the back of the hot mess that’s consumed the last two years or so, planning in-person, interstate events that are open to spectators just isn’t quite within reach. But instead of binning the whole competition this year, we’re determined to still give Australian competitors the opportunity to take part -- they just need to stay home to do so.

In total, we’ll have just 27 competitor places available for the whole country, making anyone who enters literally one in a million. To sign up, competitors need to snap up a competition pack from the Bureaux Coffee website, which will go live on Monday November 15th at 6:00 pm.

Those lucky enough to grab a pack will receive:

• 250g of competition coffee, sourced by Cafe Imports and roasted by us
• a limited edition Bureaux AeroPress
• other goodies from our sponsors
• a unique code to access the recipe form
• the chance to take the title of 2021 Australian AeroPress Champion

Competitors will work on their AeroPress recipes from home, creating the best possible cup from the mystery coffee provided and then submit their recipe using our online form.

On judgement day, our crack squad of surrogate baristas will brew each competitor’s recipe for our panel of judges, who’ll separate the good from the amazing, and crown our 2021 Australian AeroPress Champion.

While the judging day event will unfortunately not be open to spectators, we’ll ensure there’s great online coverage via our social media channels.


* That’s basically Latin for ‘compete from home’.
